What to paint when you don’t know what to paint?
Today I’m going to share a few ideas and directions to explore that should help you find your next great painting idea.
- Paint your current life.
- Paint what you are passionate about.
- Paint what is around you.
- Paint something abstract.
- Try a painting exercise.
- Have fun when you paint!
What colors do you need to paint a sunset?
Depending on the sunset you’ve got in mind, you’ll want a yellow, orange (or red and yellow you can mix), blue, purple (or blue and red), and white—plus something for dark shadows in the clouds such as burnt umber or Payne’s Grey.
How do you add depth to a mountain painting?
Trying to create a sense of depth and distance in your landscape painting is key for creating realism in your paintings.
- The simplest way to do this is with Aerial perspective…
- Change in colour – A green tree will quickly appear purple, then blue as it receded into the distance.
Should the foreground be lighter or darker?
Value is how light or dark an object is. When it comes to perspective, closer objects will appear darker while objects further away will appear lighter. This happens because there are particles in the air including dust and moisture. Your eye has to look through more particles the further an object is from you.
How do you create color depth?
The dark blue is used to pull your vision back, thus making depth. The bright yellows, greens, and whites in this painting are used to create light that your eyes are drawn to. This makes the darker colors reseed and create depth. In the mess of color, the darker colors are creating an illusion of depth and shape.
